On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, the GST Council convened a meeting through a video conferencing, presided over by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs. The agenda of this meeting was to clarify the government's position on the taxation of online gaming and casinos, following the suggestions put forth by the Council during the 50th GST Council meeting that took place a few weeks prior, on July 11, 2023.
